The Mandans, Hidatsas and Arikaras are the most well-known earth lodge people but many other tribes also used that type of dwelling: the eastern Dakota (the Wahpekute and their relatives), Pawnee, Oto, Missouri, Omaha, Kansa (Kaw) and Ponca and a few others.

Pawnee earth lodges were huge and could house 30 to 50 people.
