On Her Own Ground: The Life and Times of Madam C. J. Walker by A'Lelia Bundles, Walker's great-great-granddaughter, was published by Scribner/Lisa Drew in 2001. It was the first truly comprehensive biography of Walker's life and was a New York Times Notable Book in 2001 as well as the recipient of the Letitia Woods Brown Prize from the Association of Black Women Historians.
