Well, the first two parties were federalists and anti-federalists. The federalist party died during the era of good feelings and republicans emerged. Between 1820-40 Quincy Adams, Jackson, Van Buren, and Henry Clay emerged, and economic issues like the bank, internal improvement and tariffs caused reemergence of a two party system.
