Definitely! Abraham Lincoln was a great leader. First off, Abraham Lincoln started off as a a poor boy living in a log cabin (as you all probably know). He was passionate, independent, and honest, already showing good leadership skills at a young age. He wasn't able to go to school often and moved around a few times. He basically taught himself to read and write.

Secondly, he started off his own law firm with a friend of his. Coming from the poor background he was born in, starting his own law firm was quite an achievement, become president even more so! He was a great lawyer, like most presidents of the United States.

And thirdly, he did something very few men had the ability to do, he united the country! Slavery had a torn apart the country, but Abraham Lincoln was able to unite the country and endslavery. Even though many people (very many people) ridiculed his actions, he stood firm and did what he thought was right for the country! And now look, blacks are treated equally! Forget Martin Luther King Jr. (well don't forget him, just set him aside for a second) if Abraham Lincoln hadn't become president who knew what this country (United States) would be like right now!

So yes! Abraham Lincoln was a great leader (possibly the best) very few men have a accomplished what he has done!

No. That is a myth implanted and driven home by the winner of a war. He is directly responsible for the death of 600,000 American men, women, and children. He could have simply bought every slave in the country and released them for a tiny fraction of the cost of His War without bloodshed. To pull it off "his way" he completely butchered our constitution and caused the pitiful system of "total" government we are subjected to till this day. Believe it or not, before Lincoln, Americans actually enjoyed life with very little government intrusion. Today we are merely "subjects" of an all too powerful government "machine" meant to squash or independent nature and make us "walk the line". To heck with Lincoln!

Oh Ya... He was dog ugly too.

This calls for an opinion, of course, but in my opinion, Lincoln was a strong leader. In his time, the Presidency was not as strong an office as it is today. He did many things that were unpopular at the time (suspending the right of habeas corpus), but all in an effort to successfully prosecute the war.

Abraham Lincoln is remembered as one of the finest presidents to ever hold the office. The only president held in higher esteem by historians is George Washington.
