The first Gulf War the United States was involved in was Operation Desert Storm. While the United States played a large role in the short operation they were not the only country involved.
Lots of wars were fought by the United States in the 20th Century: 1. Philippine Insurrection (Philippine-American War 1900-1902). 2. WW1 (1917-1918) 3. Banana Wars (Central/South America) 1920's/1930's 4. WW2 (1941-1945) 5. Korean War (1950-1953) 6. Vietnam War (1961-1975) 7. Operation Urgent Fury (Grenada-1983) 8. Operation Just Cause (Panama-1989) 9. Operation Desert Storm (Iraq-Jan/Feb 1991) 10. Operation Restore Hope (Somalia-1993) 11. Operations in Kosovo/Bosnia (Europe-1995) 12. Operation Enduring Freedom (Afghanistan-2001 to present) 13. Operation Iraqi Freedom (Iraq-2003 to present)
If you start at 1776 when we initially declared our independence and you ignore the many occupations the United States has taken part in but include the many undeclared wars such as Vietnam, I count roughly 69 years of "relative" peace.
Well, there was a rebel conflict between Somalia and the US which took place in 1991 (end of the Cold War) and has been going on ever since. In 1998 a terrorist organisation called Al-Qaeda began a serious of bombings on American territory such as the USS Cole and a US embassies in South Africa. Then in 2001, Al-Qaeda's leader Osama Bin Laden, arranged a terrorist attack on the World Trade Centre resulting of the deaths of almost 3,000 innocent civilians. Almost a month after this attack George W Bush launched Operation Enduring Freedom which resulted in invading Afghanistan and other Islamic nations. They're goal is to remove all of Al-Qaeda forces. The UK and some Russian and the Afghan National Army are also helping the US achieve this goal.
Yes, if it a subject called American History. Otherwise, just American is capitalized.
It's American Eagle. It was invented by GOD just like you
No. The term Desert Storm comes from the name of the main offensive, codenamed Operation Desert Storm. So Desert Storm was just the name of the first offensive action carried out by the Coalition forces during the Gulf War. People use the term gulf war because it is easier to say and easier to remember. It's also easier to SPELL. But for historical accuracy: 1. Iran-Iraq War (1980-1988) 2. Operation Desert Storm (January and February 1991) 3. Operation Iraqi Freedom (2003 to present)
No. The US Invasion of Panama was code named Operation Just Cause in December 1989.
1. Operation Urgent Fury-Grenada 1983 2. Operation Just Cause-Panama 1989 3. Operation Desert Storm-Iraq 1991 4. Operation Restore Hope-Somalia 1992/93 5. Operations in Bosnia 1995 6. Operation Enduring Freedom-Afghanistan 2001 7. Operation Iraqi Freedom-2003
The American public was excited during the initial phases of Operation Iraqi Freedom in 2003; just as they were during the 45 day campaign of Operation Desert Storm in January/February 1991. After those initial "days", both campaigns degenerated into no activity.
As proclaimed by President Bush Senior; "...We have beat the Vietnam Syndrome...we are united again at last...and victorious!" Operation Desert Storm brought victory and parades for a newly found pride in our armed forces. It was our first "big" victory in decades! Operation Urgent Fury (1983 Grenada) and Operation Just Cause (1989 Panama) were victories too, but NOT NEARLY AS LARGE AS THIS ONE! Desert Storm re-united the American people as Vietnam had divided it, the meaning behind President Bush Sr.'s statement to the people. Just as the Spanish-American War of 1898 had re-united the American people as the Civil War had divided it, and the Spanish-American War was nicknamed the "Splendid Little War" by the press. Desert Storm has been nicknamed the "100 Hour War."
1. Operation Urgent Fury-Grenada (1983) 2. Operation Just Cause-Panama (1989) 3. Operation Desert Storm-Iraq (January and February 1991) 4. Operation Enduring Freedom-Afghanistan (2001 to present) 5. Operation Iraqi Freedom-Iraq (2003 to present)
The 82nd ABN DIV did not make a combat jump during Desert Storm. The Division was deployed further west. There were no combat jumps during Desert Storm. The last combat jump conducted by the 82nd ABN was DEC 20, 1989 in Panama during Operation Just Cause.
1. Operation Urgent Fury 1983 (Grenada) 2. Operation Just Cause 1989 (Panama) 3. Operation Desert Storm Jan/Feb 1991 (Iraq) 4. Operation Restore Hope 1992/93 (Somalia) 5. Operation Enduring Freedom 2001- (Afghanistan) 6. Operation Iraqi Freedom 2003- (Iraq)
Which one? 1. Iran-Iraq War 1980-1988 2. Operation Desert Storm Jan/Feb 1991 3. Operation Iraqi Freedom 2003 And it's just a matter of time, before someone starts including Afghanistan into the group. (Operation Enduring Freedom 2001-).
The Spanish-American War of 1898 is MUCH CLOSER to Operation Desert Storm of 1991. 1. Both conflicts occurred in the 90's. 2. The Spanish-American War lasted about 4 months. Desert Storm lasted about 1 month. 3. The Spanish-American War had approximately 400 battle deaths. Desert Storm had approximately 146 US Deaths. 4. The Spanish-American War was nick-named, "The Splendid Little War." Desert Storm was nick-name, "The 100 Hour War." 5. In both conflicts, returning US Troops were given massive Parades upon their return home. 6. Politicians in BOTH conflicts stated that, "The Spanish-American War had brought unity & closure from the bitterness of the US Civil War (1861-1865)", and President Bush Senior announced, "That Desert Storm had erased the Vietnam Syndrome from the United States, and brought Americans together again, from the bitterness of Vietnam." Today's Operation Iraqi Freedom, is MUCH CLOSER to the Philippine Insurrection of 1900, which was spawned by the Spanish-American War of 1898. The Philippine Insurrection, caused FAR MORE US casualties and lasted much longer than the Spanish-American War.
Vietnam was the last US war against a determined enemy. Since then: 1. Operation Urgent Fury-Grenada 1983 2. Operation Just Cause-Panama 1989 3. Operation Desert Storm-Iraq 1991 4. Operation Restore Hope-Somalia 1992/93 5. Operations in Bosnia/Kosovo 1995 6. Operation Enduring Freedom-Afghanistan 2001 7. Operation Iraqi Freedom-Iraq 2003 8. Operation Odessey Dawn-Libya 2011
