What is tidewater vs Piedmont?

Tiedwater vs Piedmont was a class issue in colonial Virginia that was a result of earlier vs later immigration from England. The earlier immigrants were able to obtain the more rich-soiled, cooler climated land nearest to the ocean (Tidewater) which allowed them to produce more crops and generate a lot of revenue! The later immigrants got stuck with the "left-overs" which was the land nearest to the mountains and foothills (Piedmont, in Spanish, Pie="foot" & "Montaña"=mountain). The soil in that area consists of heavy clay making it harder to produce crops and generate revenue, therefore having a poorer class of people.
