Actually there have been 15 US national capitals , but most only lasted a few months, and in the case of Lancaster, PA, just one day. However there have been 4 officially recognized national capital cities:

Philadelphia 1776,1777,1788-1783,1790-1800

Annapolis 1783-1784

New York 1785-1788 and 1789-1790

Washington D.C. 1800 to present
