The civilian Conservation Corps or CCC gave single men under 25 a job. This agnecy was set up in 1933 as part of Roosevelts new deal, the governments response to the Great Depression.
The men who worked in the CCC lived in government camps and did hard work, like planting trees to stop erosion, and clearing land. in return they were fed and clothed (and given a sense of purpose), and their small wages ($1 a day) were sent home to their parents. it was also hoped that the men, who mainly came from the cities, would become fit and healthy as a result of the fresh air.
Between 1933 and 1942, 3 million people took part in the CCC scheme.
The main task of the Civilian Conservation Corps was to give men work during the Great Depression. It also served as a training ground for the military. It was run as a military organization. When World War II came, there was a ready cadre of people with a military type background.
The CCC was a part of FDR's new deal, and gave jobs building schools and playgrounds to thousands of young men across the country. It set up camps and provided room and board to these men, and 30 dollars a month, most of which had to be sent home to support their families. It helped rebuild a lot of places and also gave jobs to many people, and impacted the nation largely because of the jobs and good work that it did.
Civilian Conservation Corps ended in 1942.
