A poll watcher is someone who is appointed by a candidate or a political party to observe the election day procedures in a precinct, not the voters. The election judge or poll managers of the polling place will designate a place where watchers can remain throughout election day. Conversations between watchers and voters are usually not permitted within the polling place, depending on the state. Watchers are never permitted to interfere with the orderly conduct of the election or influence any voter in the casting this ballot.
A poll watcher simply watches the processes carried out by the election workers, to ensure that all applicable laws are being followed properly. A poll watcher's involvement regarding voters would be to challenge an election worker who might be influencing a voter's individual election decisions, or if an election worker inappropriately excludes a voter. While the sponsors for poll watchers have a vested interest in ensuring the election is fair and free of obstruction or influence, every citizen should also have a vested interest in the election being fair. If an election is proven to be fair and free of influence or obstruction, then all parties can have greater confidence in the results of the election and are likely to provide to greater support to successful issues and elected officials. Overall, greater confidence in election results could result in greater citizen unity in the direction of our city, county and nation.
A poll tax required prospective voters to pay money.
The Twenty-fourth Amendment (Amendment XXIV) prohibits both Congress and the states from conditioning the right to vote in federal elections on payment of a poll tax or other types of tax.
With the government eliminating poll taxes, it allowed many more to be able to vote.
The first poll that was ever conducted by the national poll seeker George Gallop was on how people felt about the newspaper. He used his survey results to form a PH.D. thesis/
The cause of the poll tax was to keep poor and minority people from voting. The laws were eliminated by the 15th Amendment to the Constitution.
