A "Carnegie Library" is any one of the more than 2,500 public libraries in the US which were built with money donated by Scottish-American businessman Andrew Carnegie.
Andrew Carnegie donated his money mainly by establishing libraries, schools, universities, and other public institutions. He also created charitable trusts and foundations to support education and research programs. Additionally, Carnegie donated to causes promoting peace and international cooperation.
Andrew Carnegie donated millions of dollars to fund public libraries. He would fund public libraries to any city in America that wanted the money, so long as they were open to all people. Needless to say, the southern part of the US didn't recieve much. He played a major part in libraries in Ny, Brooklyn, Baltimore, Pittsburgh and several other cities.

He had $189.6 billion dollars (1996 dollars), which is the second largest fortune accumulated by anyone. He gave away most of his money. At his time, he had 400 million, and before his death, gave away 350 million. After his death, the rest of his money went to charities and libraries.
He made donations not just as a gift, but in a way that his fortune was put to good use and not wasted
