he died of old age i believe. he was in his 80s when he died.

He was 84 at the time of his death in 1790. Franklin had an abscess (it was called an imposthume back then) in his lungs which burst, and the resulting drainage eventually caused enough respiratory distress to kill him.

Although an exact cause of death can not be determined, Franklin's lungs slowly failed over the years. In his last days, breathing became extremely labored, followed by a burst of an "imposthume" (ie, an abscess) in his lung, soon after which he simply stopped breathing.
