The French and Indian war (also known as the 7 year war) caused the Proclamation of 1763 . After the colonist and the British had won the war , The British desisted not to let the colonist cross north or east of the Appalachian mountains . They didn't want them to cross because they couldn't afford to protect the colonist for the Indians attacks.
