He had plenty of problems. Trying to keep the nation together, finding a General to fight the war, assignation attempts were always near, the death of his son, his marriage to Mary Todd, not enough money to cover the bills Mary made, his oldest son was fighting in the war, emanating the slaves, keeping congress working. These were just some of the things he could have worried about.

Abraham Lincoln once said, "I fear explanations explanatory of things explained."

Generally speaking, most historians agree that Lincoln wasn't fearful of any particular thing. But he did suffer from depression off and on during his entire life. Sometimes he feared the periods of depression would never end, and other times he feared a spell of depression would end with him committing suicide. As he matured, he became a bit more adept at going through these episodes and adopted a more positive outlook. But he still refused to carry a knife in his pocket. There were times, especially in his early adulthood, when he was quite suicidal.

At one point, he was diagnosed with hypochondria, an irrational conviction that one is suffering from one or more diseases, or soon will be.

In light of his mental suffering, he often struggled with his spirituality and the meaning of his existence. Once he had made the determination to conquer or tame his mental demons, the primary thing he feared was having done nothing in life to have justified his existence.

I only know that Abraham Lincoln was afraid of dentist because once a dentist broke a jaw bone in the process of pulling out a tooth. (That's a good reason)
