The original documents were the Articles of Confederation. This document was a little to broad and did not provide the details needed to ensure that the Government would not become another socialist Dictatorship.

The Constitution was forged and developed to ensure that "We the People" would have fair representation and the ability to not be taxed unfairly.

Unfortunately, not everyone was in favor of a republic that was based on fairness and achievement. It has taken many years, but we have finally taken enough freedom's away from Americans and taxed them to the point of breaking.

Tolsky pointed out at one time that a democracy will always (in the long run) fail, because people will eventually find out that they can vote themselves a raise from others income.

We now have a debt ratio that exceeds 65% of our GDP. We have almost as many people not working and receiving money from the Government as we have paying into the system. This will eventually destroy our country if we continue to give away items we can not afford to buy. Only a handful of people pay any meaningful portion of income tax. It is something like 5% of the population pays 90% of the Federal tax. That is about as far away from a fair tax situation as you could get.

Getting back to the actual Constitution would be a great thing. The framers of this awesome document were intelligent beyond their time.

The framers of the Constitution didn't all have the same views. Some were federalists who wanted a strong central government and felt it should have much more power than the states. The anti-federalists were worried that the rights of the citizens were not going to be well protected. It took a lot of discussion as well as some compromising to get the job done. For instance, the anti-federalists pushed for a Bill of Rights and eventually got one.

According to historian Charles Beard, the framers of the constitution were most concerned with promoting their economic interest. ?æAs a constitution, the Articles of Confederation were concerned primarily with limiting the powers of the central government.?æ

The Framers believed many things. They believed courage was the secret of having liberty. They also believed it was necessary to limit the power of government, and to have a separation of powers.
