β 12y agoThis act requires Kansas an Nebraska to vote on whether or not to allow slavery. Nebraska was strongly anti-slavery so pro-slavery people knew that if a balance of slave and free state was going to be kept, Kansas had to be a slave state. Accordingly, they sent people into Kansas from Missouri to try to influence the election by any means possible. Anti-slavery responded in kind and violence broke out.

β 9y agoThe Kansas-Nebraska Act was signed into law on May 30, 1854. This Act created the territories of Nebraska and Kansas so people could begin settling in these areas.
