Felix Longoria was killed in action in the Philippines during WW2. When his remains were returned to his home town, the local funeral home would not allow him to lay in state and he could not be buried in the 'white' section of the cemetery. When this was reported in national newspapers, Longoria became the first Mexican-American to be interred in Arlington National Cemetery.

Who was Felix Longoria?

as far as i know, he was a Mexican soldier who died in WWII. He was buried at a different memorial than his hometown because the dude that ran the memorial of his hometown refused to take him in because he was Mexican. Additional information: The climate at that time was such that there were many white people who wanted the community of Three Rivers to remain white . There was even a community on the other side of the train tracks that was built specifically to keep Mexicans on their on side of the tracks, whites lived on the other side of the tracks. The streets on the Mexican side had all Spanish names whereas the streets on the designated white side had English names. Three Rivers is a town in Texas only 100 miles from the Mexican boarder so there was a migration of Mexicans who wanted to make a better life for themselves in the US. Felix was from Three Rivers and was among many Mexican Americans who served in WWII and was killed. His family wanted to use the local funeral home for services and the white owner denied them from doing so because he felt it would not sit right with the white towns people. With the help of a prominent doctor in town and Lyndon B. Johnson, Longoria was finally put to rest in the Arlington Cemetery in DC. He was granted a full military service.
