Before this proposal. the only existing government was individual forms of government that each colonial had established such as; the Mayflower Compact and House of Burgess. The Albany Plan would allow all colonials to function as one and it would dictate the taxes, colonial defense, and certain laws. The main significance is that this proposal was the first move toward unified government.

the colonies would die/ be defeated if they didn't join together to fight the French.
