From this point, the war was deemed to be effectively over, although Joe Johnston had not yet surrendered to Sherman, and the Confederacy was not officially signed-off for another few weeks.

There were other small skirmishes in the West for a while. Also a number of Confederate Generals went into hiding and were not officially pardoned for some years, if at all.
