Turkey Run State park was first owned by the Lusk family. The people of Indiana wanted it to be the first state park. the state started the parks program in 1918 as a centenial gift to the state and the people of the state. However, Hoosier Veener bought the property at an auction, for 30,000 bidding against the state. Richard Lieber bought the park from them roughly 6 months later for 40,000 dollars when Hoosier Veener was in danger of going out of business. It did anyways. Turkey run then became the second state park then in the same year.
