Bessie Smith (1894-1937 ), Dinah Washington (1924-1963), Memphis Minnie (1897-1973), Mary Ann Fisher (1923-2004) and Koko Taylor (1928-2009) were all know as Queen of the Blues at various times. Inasmuch as there can only be one Queen - it's tough to choose, and in any case very much a matter of taste.
Personally, I love Koko Taylor. For me despite her recent death, she is still The Queen. And having lived so recently, to answer the question "who IS the Queen", she is perhaps the best answer.
That's not to say anything to denigrate Mary Ann Fisher or the two earlier Queens. Listen to all four, and make your own decision.
