There were many groups and people who were against Abraham Lincoln in 1864. Anyone who did not want to see slavery abolished where the front runners. A group of Northerners known as the Copperheads were some fo the more vocal.

By most accounts, Abraham Lincoln was not religious, although he was certainly from a Protestant Christian background. But there is little evidence that he attended any church regularly for much of his life. However, Presbyterian sources say that in 1850, after the Lincolns’ son Eddie died, the family was comforted by the pastor of the First Presbyterian Church in Springfield; Pastor James Smith became a friend and support to Mrs. Lincoln, who did join that church, and at certain times, Mr. Lincoln went with her to services at the First Presbyterian Church.
The first states seceded when Abraham Lincoln was elected president. Officially, Abraham Lincoln believed that all new states admitted to the Union should be free states. Although Lincoln was viewed as a moderate in the North, he was considered an extremist in the South. Southerners feared that Lincoln would not allow slavery to continue at all, even though Lincoln did not espouse this as his official position. South Carolina was the first state to secede, declaring itself independent from the Union.

Two sides. One group very much agreed with him, for abolishing slavery. The other group was very much against him. This was the reason for the Civil War, and there was little ground for opinion in between the two groups.
Abraham Lincoln believed that all peoples were covered by the Declaration of Independence. He argued that if Blacks could be excluded then other people could also be excluded. In that situation, Lincoln argued that no group was safe.
Lincoln's Emancipation Proclamation freed slaves, African Americans, or blacks, whatever you want to call them.
John Wilkes Booth was a Confederate sympathizer and led a small group that sought revenge for the Union's battle against Southern independence. At first his idea was to kidnap President Lincoln. After the South was defeated, Booth sought a new plan of revenge, the assassination of the US President Lincoln and other members of Lincoln's cabinet. Lincoln was shot by Booth on April 14, 1865 and died the next day.
