Missouri wanted to be a slave state so to the balance of the states Maine became a free state and Missouri became a slave state
The Missouri Compromise stated that any new state that was below the 36-30 line on the map would be a slave state and any state above that line would be a free state. Popular sovereignty was used in years after 1850 in new states and this stated that the people of the state got to decide whether they wanted to be free or a slave state.
Free states and slave states both wanted to see their ideas extend to the west. Americans who moved west took their different ways of life with them. This was a conflict for Missouri because they believed in slavery.
Nope, Maine was also a anti-slavery state since the start of it's joining into the Union in 1820. Maine joined the Union from the Compromise of 1820. Missouri wanted to become a slave state, but in order to keep a balance between slave to anti-slave states, Maine was then admitted to the Union as a free state(Missouri Compromise of 1820).

Lincoln was only 11 years old when then Missouri Compromise was made. I doubt that he had any strong feelings about it. He did not regularly go the school-- he may not even have heard about it at the time.
Yes Henry Clay did the Missouri compromise.
Douglas wanted to abandon the Missouri Compromise because he wanted to put in place his own Kansas- Nebraska Act. This act would expand railroads and allow territories to choose for themselves if they wanted to be free or slave states.

The Missouri Compromise was a temporary band aid on the problem of slavery. Many in the South wanted slavery and many in the North did not. It made more people unhappy.
Northerners protest Douglas's plan to repeal the Missouri Compromise because they wanted slavery to stop and the leaders of the south rejected the plan, they spit upon every plan to the compromise.
