Elijah McCoy
(1843-1929) Invented the first oil dripping cup for trains. Many others tried to copy the invention and was unsuccessful. When consumers requested the oil dripping cup that Mr. McCoy invented they would often say they wanted, "The Real McCoy." That's where that old expression comes from.
