Jackie Robinson is credited with breaking MLB's color barrier in 1947. However, back in 1884 in the American Association, a major league at the time, Moses Walker and his brother Welday Walker played for the Toledo Blue Stockings. Moses was nicknamed Fleet and played 42 games as a catcher and batted .263. His brother Welday played 5 games as an outfielder and batted .222.

The first African-American professional Baseball player on an integrated team was Bud Fowler who played Lynn (IA) exhibition games in 1878.
The first in the Major Leagues was Moses Fleetwood Walker when the Jim Crow laws were just starting to be in effect and before racism spread around America. He played on an integrated team, the Toledo Blue Stockings of the American Association, in 1884. He played for one year on the Blue Stockings and batted .263 in 152 at-bats.
Over the next few years, about a dozen Black players played minor league ball. A ban on such players, somewhat unofficial, sometimes explicity, began about 1890.
However, Jack Roosevelt Robinson AKA Jackie Robinson is considered the first black MLB player when he launched into the Majors in 1947 for the Brooklyn Dodgers.
Actually the first black pitcher in the major leagues was Dan Bankhead, for the Brooklyn dodgers in 1947 and in that same game he became the first black to hit a home run in his first major league game at bat.... Roy Campanella was 1/2 black and debuted for the Brooklyn Dodgers in 1949, although some sources indicate he debuted the year after Jackie Robinson broke the color barrier in MLB, on April 20, 1948. Due to the "one-drop rule," he was always considered to be Black although his father was of Italian descent.
he is famous for pitching for many different teams.he has broken many records. Leroy Robert "Satchel" Paige was an American baseball player whose pitching in the Negro leagues and in Major League Baseball (MLB) made him a legend in his own lifetime. The Phillies first African American player was infielder John Kennedy whose first game with the team was April 22, 1957. I have no idea when he was signed. Kennedy's MLB career lasted 5 games. He had previous played in the Negro Leagues with the Birmingham Black Barons and Kansas City Monarchs.
Halfback Kenny Washington (March 21) and end Woody Strode (May 7) signed with the Los Angeles Rams to become the first African-Americans to play in the NFL in the modern era. Guard Bill Willis (August 6) and running back Marion Motley (August 9) joined the AAFC with the Cleveland Browns.
