The United States of America was founded when King George III was the King of England. The Continental Congress met in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. They sent a delegation to King George requesting a meeting. They wanted to present a demand for a redress of grievances. He replied he would not meet with them. They had an illegal assembly and he ordered them to disband. Congress considered his answer and decided to declare independence instead.
