I don't believe they still do.
Sorry- this is not a happy answer. There is a widespread belief that Rock Island 1903s below serial number 285507 underwent a bad heat treatment process of the receiver, with the result being that they are not safe to fire. I personally have mixed feelings about the validity of this, but it is an opinion expressed by people that know more than I do. As a result, the value of low serial number Rock Island 1903s is very low- wall hanger status. I would urge you to have your rifle inspected by a competent riflesmith with strong knowledge of 1903s. If you were considering buying it, I would not.
Lots of manual work. Lots of children in the family. In 1940 improvised life style. Gadgets and mechanical help to do chores of work.
Made in 1911. Please note- Rock Island Model 1903s below serial number 285507 are considered by many to have a major safety problem with heat treatment of the steel in the receiver, and should not be fired. There are different opinions on this both ways by respected gun historians. Myself- I would not shoot it.
In my opinion they are the Liberty Seated Dollars: 1870cc, 1870s, 1872cc, 1872s, 1873cc, 1873s the Morgan Dollars: 1879cc, 1884s, 1889cc, 1892s, 1893s, 1895, 1897o, 1901, 1903s, 1904s the Peace Dollars: 1934s. All coins listed have values over $1,000.00 in the grade of MS-63. Dollar coins dated from 1971 to 2000 have no silver and most only have face value.
