The reason Native Americans usually fought was to do with food supplies and good land. Fighting over food would usually happen just before the winter as Buffalo meat could be dried and kept for a long time. Having a good set up for a camp was crucial. Native American tribes realized, each at some point, that the European settlers were not honest people, violated their written word, and intended to drive them from their lands. At this point the Native Americans fought back, but not in a concerted effort. Native American cultures were polar opposites of European cultures.
