The colonists was not happy with the introduction of new taxes. They increased British military and started the Boston Tea Party.
Rather than isolating Massachusetts, as Britain had planned, the Intolerable Acts brought the colonies together for the First Continental Congress. Eventually, they served as a catalyst for the colonists' revolt in the Revolutionary War.
Intolerable acts were a series of acts passed by British that worsened the colonial opinion of British. There were four major acts which are called intolerable acts. They were passed to ban town meetings in Massachusetts and altered the charter, close Boston port till the reimbursement of lost tea to British as a result of Boston Tea Party, declare that all British soldiers to be tried for crimes were to be arraigned in Britain and Royal governors could house British troops in houses owned by locals without prior permission from the owner.

British Officers would knock upon the door of a home and then instruct the residents that they were to house and feed soldiers. The Quartering-Act was part of the intolerable acts which were made to punish the colonists for the Boston Tea Party. The ultimate reaction was to write a no-quartering act into the Bill of Rights.
The Intolerable Acts started in Britain. King GeorgeIII and Lord North came up with a ton of taxes like the Stamp Act, Quartering Act and many more. They showed the taxes to the British Government and they passed or denied these taxes. The colonists did not have anyone representing them in Britain. This is called "taxation without representation". They sent these laws to the colonists in the "New England" area. This is where the Intolerable Acts took place.
