The men writing the constitution felt that closed sessions would insure that they could discuss ideas and disagreements without input. This was a good idea because they were able to write a document that took only a few months to write and has lasted 200 years. If you look at the problems we have had with the health care bill and all the people yelling at each other and the discussions taking place imagine what it would be like to write a constitution.
