They were the first African Americans to enroll as students in the Little Rock Central High School which had been an all-white school. The year was 1957. There was much protest against this integration which was forced by a Supreme Court decision.

The Little Rock Nine were nine young black students, led by Elizabeth Eckford and Ernest Green, who were the first to integrate Central High School in Little Rock, Arkansas. They endured racist taunts, death threats, insults, and anger just for the right to attend their local high school.
