As i see it history, if we know it, alows us to lean from others mistakes without having to suffer under them ourselves. History dousn't MAKE us do anything.

History is studied to learn of the mistakes and successes of humankind. With such knowledge, successes can be made to fit modern times and mistakes and errors of the past can be avoided. History can also be studied simply on the basis of seeing what events happened in the past.
Good question but don't stop with just history why learn anything? The world always needs more cleaners and burgers don't fry themselves. If your question is a legitimate one, the simple answer is it shows us (humans) where we have come from, helps learn from the mistakes of the past and hopefully helps us not to repeat them in the future. Also it can be interesting.
I used to like it before 7th grade, then it got to complicated. But everyone needs History so we don't repeat it. Because we do not want to be repeating everything our fallen ancestors did. And that's why history is important for all of us to learn and understand. History might not be the most interesting subject for you. But it is required for schools and for America. If you think about it what would happen if someone makes a huge mistake, that has already been repeated in history? And it could have been avoided? That's why everyone should learn history because who likes repeating mistakes?
History tells us a biased opinion of what has occurred from the view of the victor. If taken with this grain of truth in mind, history can show us a lot about the development of the human race (both good and bad) from many different aspects. A sociologist will use history much differently than say a military historian would or a linguist might. We can chart with the study of History; technology, sociology, psychology, the causes of the rise and decline of civilizations and and there application to present day.
History allows us to study people and societies, and it leads us to understand where they are now, and how they got there. History helps us understand change, and it makes us better informed citizens.
