The House of Commons is sometimes referred to as simply the Commons, the Lower House, and during debates of the House of Lords (or the Canadian Senate), it can be referred to as "the other place" (since members of the Lords and Senate are not supposed to debate the conduct of the House of Commons).

The House of Commons is also known as the Lower House. It is one half of the Parliament of the United Kingdom and is an body of 650 publicly elected members of parliament (MPs). Since 1963, Prime Minister has always been a member of the House of Commons. The Commons debate important political issues, propose new laws, and make decisions on financial bills.

The House of Lords, made up of hereditary and appointed members, is independent from but complements the work of the Commons. They scrutinize and amend bills from the Commons.
