The Reign of Terror was a period during the French Revolution characterized by mass executions of perceived enemies of the revolution. The brutality and excesses of the Reign of Terror led to widespread fear and discontent among the French population. As a result, the National Convention, which had overseen the Reign of Terror, was eventually replaced by the Directory, a more moderate governing body, in an effort to restore stability and order to France.
the reign of terror was led by Robespierre and the Jacobin, led to the directory ruling France for a while because it showed that a monarchy wasn't exactly working so an oligarchy was instigated with the directory though it proved to be weak, and it was later overthrown by Napoleon Bonaparte
The National Convention was the governing body of France from the start of the revolution until the formation of the National Directory. They were originally made up of moderates, leftists, and rightists but that changed when Robespierre came into power. He led the reign of terror which removed most of the moderates and leftists from power and ended their lives. Following Robespierre's execution the Jacobins gained control of the National Convention and it became known as the Thermidorian Convention. It ruled very unwisely and is responsible for the great financial ruin that will later befall France during the reign of Napoleon. In 1794 they were replaced by the five man Directory, the Council of Ancients, and the Council of Five Hundred.

The more radical element in the National Convention in 1793 was the Jacobins, particularly the Montagnards faction led by Maximilien Robespierre. They pushed for more extreme measures during the Reign of Terror, such as establishing revolutionary tribunals and intensifying the repression of counter-revolutionaries.
