The first group of people that comes to mind are Afro American and Africans in South Africa. Both groups faced racial segregation for many years and suffered greatly because of their race. They remained fast in their beliefs that the racism would at some time come to an end. In general, in both the USA and in South Africa, racism is no longer the monster it once was.
In the United States, Martin Luther King, Jr.; Malcolm X; Rosa Parks; and many, many other brave African-Americans stood up to racism and for civil rights, often at the greatest cost of all--their lives.
