The Bastille, in Paris. The most celebrated prison to be stormed was the Bastille.
The "main key" to the Bastille was given to Lafayette, who gifted it to George Washington. This key was not to the west portal of the Bastille, but to its pedestrian entrance on the south side of the Bastille. This key belonged to the prison warden, who was later beheaded, and allowed access into and out of the Bastille. Another, much larger key was to the vehicular entrance, also on the south side. Lafayette gave it to the masons in Alexandria, Virginia. Many other Bastille keys still exist.
