David Lloyd George died of cancer, aged 82, on 26 March, 1945, after being raised to the peerage on New Years' Day, 1945 as Earl Lloyd George of Dwyfor and Viscount Gwynedd; he never had time to take his seat in the House of Lords. He was buried beside his beloved River Dwyfor in Llanystumdwy, Caernarvonshire.
David Lloyd George was important because during his lifetime he made several important changes in Britain. He became Prime Minister in 1916 and was Britain's chief delegate to the Paris Peace Conference. In 1921 he also helped to secure independence for the Irish Free State.
