A coolamon is a type of long, shallow wooden bowl or vessel used for carrying items. Aboriginal women were the "gatherers" in their society, so a coolamon was used by Australian aboriginal women to carry water, fruits, nuts ("bush tucker") and even their babies while they werer out gathering. It could also be used for crushing grain. Coolamon is also a town in southwest New South Wales, about 40km north of Wagga Wagga.
