I understand axiel shift to be change from the centre of society out to its outer edges. For example, Christopher Columbus made an axiel shift when he sailed and discovered America - until then everyone believed the world was flat, but he sailed on 'over the edge' of what was currently known in order to make a way into something new.
People involved in axiel shift will move away from the comfortable, known, safe centre of their world, and begin to explore life on the very boundaries of what is known and even what is acceptable. When we see this happening on a wide scale we should see it as an indicator of coming change.
