Canada's heritage is decidedly multicultural, beginning with First Nations, Inuit, and Metis populations, and adding French and British (particularly Scottish) influences with the influx of European colonists through the 19th century. Immigration restrictions were eased in the 1960s, leading to increased migration from China, India, Vietnam, Jamaica, the Philippines, Lebanon, and Haiti.
The "Canadian identity" is no single idea; it is said that Canada "resists easy definition."
