the theme is dull,
its about a guy that died that was not very inportin and every one in the town are gready... so its about a funeral and i guess, for a more accurate theme would be Boring and dark..haha yup, dark
-------------------
To elaborate more, because 'dark' is not a theme, the story of The Sculptor's Funeral is mostly of conformity. The townspeople expect everyone to have a greed for money and be a type-A personality (business man etc.), but when Harvey Marrik becomes a gay artist, going on to be internationally reconized as a talent, they essentially shun him. When Jim Laird, the lawyer who stands up for him, tells the townspeople off they ar still-closed minded. Jim even mentions that he went to the right business college etc. and he's not the least bit happy. This si because the mould they force people into isn't good for everyone.
In the end, Harvey did 'win' though, seen byt he symbol on his coffin which essentially means Victory. He escaped through death.
Another theme could be Greed. As previously mentioned, the toewnpeople expect you to want money more than antything and achieve the msot amount of wealth any way you can (as long as it's in a certain field.)
Also read Paul's Case by Willa Cather because the two are simlair (the authors are the same), but it gives more indsight and depth of the story and you may be able to pull more themes and analysis from reading it.

The theme of "John Mortonson's Funeral" by Ambrose Bierce is the unpredictability and irrationality of human behavior. The story explores how people can be influenced by societal norms and appearances, leading to unexpected consequences and misunderstandings. It also delves into the idea of perception versus reality and the impact of gossip on individuals.
