This agreement was significant in expanding U.S. territory and fulfilling the concept of Manifest Destiny.

The treaty established the 49th parallel as the border between U.S. and British territories, extending west to the Pacific Ocean. This agreement allowed the U.S. to gain control of the land south of the 49th parallel, while Britain retained control of present-day Vancouver Island. The treaty was significant in preventing further conflict over the region and solidifying U.S. territorial expansion.
