unbiased answer: they had famine due to poor harvest that particular year as well as foreign invasion as countries went "oh whats this new country? best to invade it" as well as the slight civil war going on

Communism was a major obstacle during World War I. The country suffered several huge military losses, killing thousands of Russian soldiers and because of all the money spent on the war, the government could not help its people recover from a countrywide famine.

Between 1900 and 1917 Russia became increasingly restive because of poverty and inattention from government. This led to the Bolshevik Revolution in 1917 ending the monarchy.
