Queen Anne's wars were a series of war between Great Britain and France in North America that would determine who would control the continent. English settlements had been subjected to raids by the French and their Indian friends. The British mainly protected the areas around Charleston, SC and the New York and New England/ Canadian border.

The underlying cause of the Queen Anne's War, The French and Indian Wars, The War of the Spanish Succession call it what you want was, The Grand Alliance (England, the League of Augsburg, Denmark, Portugal, and the Netherlands) declared war on France and Spain to prevent union of the French and Spanish thrones following the death of King Charles II of Spain.

Queen Anne's War (1702-1713) was the second in a series of four French and Indian Wars fought between France and England (later France and Great Britain) in North America for control of the continent and was the counterpart of the War of the Spanish Succession in Europe. In addition to the two main combatants, the war also involved a number of American Indian tribes and Spain, which was allied with France.

The name 'Queen Anne's War' is only used in the United States. In Canada, Britain, and France this war is simply considered a theatre of the War of the Spanish Succession
