1898 was when the analogue clock was made and placed in the Main street Post Office tower, however after the Wairarapa earthquakes of 1942, the Post Office tower was seen as an earthquake threat and subsequently in 1953 Arthur Hopwood donated a tower that the clock could be used in. It was completed in March of 1957.

In June 1967 a permanent white cross replaced the previous temporary cross that was meant to only be a decoration for Christmas in 1960.

In 2007 the council restored the clock tower after the white cross tore off during heavy winds. It was strengthened, painted and a new neon lantern which depicts a cross was put on top to replace the white cross.
