But, if one thinks of the reasons for uniforms, one can easily imagine the Horror of a warrior who, in a melee, realised that he had struck one of his colleagues, whom he failed to recognise. I can imagine that the next time that tribe went into battle they would all have had some identifying symbol - which is the start of uniform.
