Russian leaved the republic and for almost three years Chechnya was an independent state,although it wasn't recognized by the UN and the world community, except by Taliban ruled Afghanistan. But after three years a Chechen warlord Shamil Basave invaded Dagestan in 1999 what caused second Russian-Chechen war. Which is still going on.
