Those who opposed were called redeemers because they wanted to redeem, or save. They were concerned that David might use the state police and militia against anyone who opposed to them. They felt he would appoint only radicals to the state offices and allow only newspapers for his programs. David grew more and more unpopular.
There were a few reasons why Texans opposed Edmund J. Davis. One reason was that he was against the confederacy. Many also blamed him for the poor economy of Texas.
Obnoxious Acts
Texans began to dislike Mexican rule due to several factors, including cultural and political differences, the imposition of centralized authority, and the restriction of their rights. The Mexican government’s enforcement of laws that limited slavery, which was integral to the economy of many Texas settlers, also fueled discontent. Additionally, the lack of local governance and representation frustrated Texans, leading to a desire for greater autonomy and ultimately, independence. These grievances contributed to the growing tension that culminated in the Texas Revolution.
At first, Texans didn't really like him, but by the end of the civil war, us Texans loved good ole Honest Abe. THERE WERE NO TEXANS BACK THEN! CORRECTION: There most certainly were Texans back then!!!! Texas was the 7th of the 11 states to secede from the Union. Texans did not like Lincoln. He opposed slavery, while Texans (along with many other southern states) felt slavery was necessary to sustain their economy, which depended heavily on farming and ranching. When Lincoln won the election, he received ZERO votes from Texas. His name was not even on the ballot.
Houston Texans
The Texans disliked the Law of April 6, 1830, because it restricted immigration from the United States and halted the further settlement of Anglo-Americans in Texas, which threatened their growing population and influence. Additionally, it imposed tariffs on American goods, creating economic strain. Many Texans felt that the law disregarded their rights and aspirations for self-governance, leading to increased tension between Texan settlers and the Mexican government.

The majority of Texans did not initially support William Travis's actions at Anahuac, as his aggressive stance was controversial. While some settlers, particularly those opposed to Mexican authority, rallied behind him, others criticized his methods and sought more diplomatic solutions. Overall, the responses to his actions were mixed, reflecting the divided sentiments among Texans regarding independence and relations with Mexico during that period.
