There were hundreds of political and military figures involved, but the most famous names are those of Lafayette and Robbespierre, Mirabeau, Jean Paul Marat and duke Philippe d'Orleans, nicknamed Philippe Egalité. Napoleon rose to the surface only years later.

During the French Revolution, the French weren't fighting Another Country.

They were rebelling against their own.

As a result, Marie & Loius (the queen and king of the time) were both killed.
In the French revolution, the Upper-class French fought against the Lower-class French.
Essentially, the French Revolution was a battle between the French Aristocrats/Political Leaders of France and the French peasants/common people. The peasants won.

The French Revolution was a period in time where the peasants - or common people - of France revolted/rebelled against the aristocrats and clergy of France. They did not approve of the kings and queens and other high-class leaders of France and the way they ran the country, and they revolted. Their first major action was the storming of the Bastille (a famous prison in France) that is now celebrated as "Bastille Day" on July 14 in France. The French Revolution is the time famous for the guillotine - a big mechanical machine that was used to kill aristocrats and other supposed threats against the French peasants by decapitation. This is the same time period in which the famed queen Marie Antoinette was killed.

First, the bourgeoisie which was the 3rd estate. They were the only ones that had to pay taxes. The clergy and nobility (1st and 2nd estate) did not have to pay taxes at all, even though they were the richest.

Second, the nobility. Serious reforms were needed to try to prevent France from going bankrupt. Louis XVI wanted to take the urgent advice of his finance ministers and wanted to make the nobility pay taxes as well, so not all of the taxes had to be paid by the poor bourgeoisie, but they turned against him for even thinking of such a plan.
