King George V was the first ruling British monarch to visit India.

Queen Victoria was named Empress of India in 1876, but she did not visit the country. Edward VII visited India in 1876, when he was Prince of Wales. However, he did not visit the country again after his accession. George V was the first ruling British monarch to visit India. He first visited India as Prince of Wales in 1905. With his wife, Queen Mary, he returned, as king and emperor, to the elaborate coronation ceremony, called a durbar, at Delhi, held on Dec. 12, 1911.
