Pocahontas was the daughter of Chief Powhatan of the Tsenacommacah tribal nations. She married John Rolfe in 1614 and together they had a son in 1615. They went to England in 1616 and she died in 1617.

She started writing poetry in her youth about her Indian Heritage and its history and legends. For many years she toured Canada, the US and England presenting her works. Later she moved to Vancouver and continued to write. She died in Vancouver on 7mar1913. Her contribution to Canada was her lifelong work, preserving the Indian Heritage
